Plan Your Trip – London – Day 2

Plan Your Trip – London – Day 2

🗓️

Day 2: Towering History, Foodie Finds & Thames-Side Charm

If Day 1 was all about royals and pageantry, Day 2 is about discovering the heartbeat of London — its river, its markets, and its ever-changing skyline. Grab your walking shoes and an empty stomach, because this one starts with street food and ends with sunsets by the water.

☀️

Morning: Borough Market, Tower Bridge & a Royal Fortress

🚇 Start at: London Bridge Station
📍 Lines: Northern & Jubilee Lines
💳 Use contactless or Oyster to tap in/out
Tip: Arrive by 9:30 AM for breakfast before the crowds

1. Borough Market – London’s Legendary Food Heaven

📍 8 Southwark Street, SE1 1TL
Open from 10 AM (Mon–Sat)

Welcome to London’s most famous food market, dating back over 1,000 years! This place is a sensory overload — sizzling paella pans, mountains of cheese, fresh-baked focaccia, and the best coffee you’ll find on this side of the Thames.

⭐ What to try: Monmouth Coffee, Kappacasein grilled cheese, Ginger Pig sausage rolls — or just wander and graze!

🛍️ Tip: Bring cash or card, and don’t be shy about grabbing small bites from multiple vendors.

2. Walk to Tower Bridge (15 min riverside stroll)

Take the scenic route via Tooley Street or walk along the Thames Path. Snap shots of the Shard, City Hall, and quirky sculptures along the way.

🎡 Why it’s cool: It’s the bridge you think of when someone says “London.” The towers open for tall ships!

⏱️ Optional: Go inside for the glass floor walkway across the top (~£12)

3. Tower of London – Crowns, Dungeons & Beefeaters

📍 Tower Hill Station (District & Circle lines)
🕰️ Allow: 2–3 hours
🎟️ ~£33 adults | Book online to skip lines

This is 1,000 years of royal history in one epic riverside fortress. Originally built by William the Conqueror, it’s been a palace, a prison, and the final stop for some unlucky royals.

🎯 Don’t miss: The Crown Jewels, the Ravens, and a free guided tour with a Yeoman Warder aka Beefeater — part history, part stand-up comedy.

🍽️ Lunch: Riverside Dining at Coppa Club (Tower Bridge)

Coppa Club – Glass Igloos & Skyline Views
📍 3 Three Quays Walk, Lower Thames St
🥗 Cuisine: International – light, fresh, photogenic
🍕 Try the sourdough pizza or grain bowls with a cocktail

Famous for its glass igloo domes (especially cozy in cooler months), this chic riverside spot lets you dine with uninterrupted views of the Thames and the Shard. Perfect for a relaxed bite after exploring the Tower.

🎨

Afternoon: Art & Views Along the South Bank

🚶 Walk back across Tower Bridge and continue west along the South Bank
🎭 Pass performers, pop-ups, and book markets as you walk

4. Tate Modern

📍 Bankside, SE1 9TG
🎟️ Free entry (special exhibits ~£15–20)

Housed in a massive old power station, the Tate Modern is one of the world’s leading contemporary art museums. Even if you’re not a “modern art person,” the space is cool, dramatic, and fun to explore.

🔭 Tip: Head up to the Tate Viewing Level for free skyline views — including St. Paul’s Cathedral across the river.
🌇

Evening: Sunset Strolls & Dinner on the River

🚶 Walk or ride to: Southbank Centre / Waterloo Station
🌆 As golden hour hits, the South Bank comes alive with lights, locals, and music

Dinner Options

  • 🥘 Skylon: Modern dining, river views, romantic atmosphere
  • 🍔 Wahaca: Vibrant Mexican street food in a fun setting
  • 🍻 The Green Room: Relaxed pub-style eats with eco flair

🍸 Bonus: Nightcap at a Rooftop Bar — try the OXO Tower Rooftop for elegant cocktails or Bar Elba near Waterloo for a fun, colorful vibe.

🎶 Live music often echoes from nearby buskers and bars, giving your evening a perfectly local finish.
